Camp prior to national tournament could be an IFWLA event and would raise profile in USA. Do people care about international body in any sport? Perhaps profile should be about IFWLA giving the national event something for every player who participates to raise IFWLA profile. Logo in programmes for all events. Could be an IFWLA assisted event – sticker and national player; sponsor an hour. Etc. IFWLA to be proactive – leader of the event. And also ask every country to identify one event per annum in every country. Every player for tennis has a (WTA) patch. Who is the IFWLA who are going to do all of this? – all probably already busy in existing roles. Aim: IFWLA to be seen as FIFA for soccer, WTA for tennis, IOC for Olympics. Slogan, such as fair play (FIFA) before every event. / Spirit of Lacrosse Award. Player of the match award could be more built up - looking for quality, fair play, spirit o the match – national lacrosse tournament, WOL, sportsmanship award annually in every country – IFWLA telling people countries what they want back. Touring teams – please take this. Newsletters – could countries insert things from IFWLA? Provide free advertising? Listing all the sports award/the IFWLA events. Rule book has logo for those countries who use international rules. Or one event p.a. to send 4 coaches to a developing countries in between world cups, to host something and make it clear that IFWLA had done it. Tours – IFWLA and national bodies? Patches and one award. Start small and be successful. Patrons – possibly rename to International Friends of women’s Lacrosse? (any combination). Aim for 2005 launch. IFWLA recognition at international events IFWLA – Lois. What do kids want aged 14 - Raffle with stick with IFWLA and meet the gold medal captain. Pre event players camp in relation to world events – clinic, fund raiser, promotes the sport – run by IFWLA, or a festival so that players could attend Lois Richardson felt that IFWLA officers in blue shirts didn’t mean anything to most players as a profile raiser. Review of footage Needs a M&P person. ?Esther lehane. Wales. Review of Marketing Role in absence of M&P Vice President This was not explicitly discussed during the meeting. STX Sponsorship STX have agreed to do a quarterly e-newsletter for £2,000 for an initial 12 month period. Acknowledge STX as official sponsor. Sponsor’s corner. To be on web site and sent out to email list – get register email on the web site for a contacts list. Website update Joanne Stanga was intending to be here. Joanne needs updates on the web site. Calendar of events. Action photos. Fiona Clark is liaising with Erin Brown at this time to get U19 photos. Results of tournaments, active calendar of events, easy find for name (not warehousing), new user straight links. Web site needs to be interactive. Drop reminder quarterly about results, emails, nominate media contacts for countries. Suggestions for Officers to consider: Honorarium? Employ someone?) Agreed Strategic plan: each committee should identify their top three priorities and implications of them. Merchandise All the stock except for IFWLA pins was sold by the team at U19, mostly for sale prices to ensure that old stock was no longer in hand. New pins (patrons, delegates, U19 world championship) done by Gertie Dunn. Marketing Consultant’s overview (Handout notes were also provided to all delegates). Delegates received a presentation from representatives of Plexacon, a marketing organisation, who had met with the Officers to discuss current issues and finances. Priorities suggested: Name, Website, Media kits (latter could be on web site). Notes from the presentation and questions to be pursued. How do you get interest level in suburban schools, how do you get them away from other competing sports? Is target market 24 and under, 30 and under or in school? Things change so quickly in youth markets that the way we marketed to them 4 years ago, will not be the same now – have to keep up with them. Influenced by peer pressure, web stuff etc. So plus is narrow demographic, minus is the constantly changing nature of that narrow demographic. What is the message, who is going to deliver it. Branding target is to get thinking of women’s lacrosse think of IFWLA. Web banners – how much do you pay for those? Could we look at some web sites to get these on which would attract young lacrosse players?? Web chat room? Could get a group of volunteers, passionate to start a chat room? Consumer marketing – passion, personal interest. Cheap as a means of advertising. Develop interactive web site – people to participate, start your own chat room, get it right or it turns people off. Events in advance, market research – what did they think of the event…..Don’t be embarrassed to send people to your web site. Empty spots in local newspapers, radio and TV – hard work, sales job, promote and be prepared for rejection. Needs to be constant not just event related. Text messaging? Media press kit. What’s the hook – why should I write about you, read about you….? IF should be doing marketing as well as host country and participating countries. IF should look at European championships and the Pan-Asian games. Should IF take these under their wing? Partner / co-sponsor etc. Name- branding and naming procedures. Technical approach and semantics, phonetics, simple, no more than 3 letters. Corporate marketing don’t like acronyms, needs to be positive, who you are selling to. International, women’s and lacrosse are the core. Filter – objectivity test, ask sample group what do you think, what are you going to remember? Too easy to live in silo and not be away of what others think. Where to from here? Name change Fiona Clark’s paper was discussed and gave rise to a number of questions/reflections. Should we discuss an IFWLA name change given ILDC wish us to to discuss merger with ILF? Time and money would be spent on resource issues. Molly McIntyre felt that we should not sit still – do something now, regardless of whether we merge or not. Shelley Maher agreed with Molly, but noted that we should be clever about how much we spend. Sue Redfern suggested that we should develop a branding name which could be used separately later within a merged association. Susie Ganzenmuller suggested Women’s lacrosse international as the merger will probably be International Lacrosse or Lacrosse international. Words on the logo should be words not initials. Variations on the name to be considered later in conference. Sharing technical list, information, company, logo. Change logo for rules book at beginning of 2004. Shelley Maher knows graphic people who could do logo designs quite cost effectively. Shelley will email around and take a majority decision. Shelley Maher, Molly McIntyre, Feffie Barnhill, Jenny Haynes, Naoko Gomi to form a small group to agree principles for a logo design. Other ideas To be followed up by President and at the IFWLA Officers’ meeting in January.
