IFWLA The
International Federation of Women's Lacrosse
Associations was formed in 1972 to promote and develop the game of women’s
lacrosse throughout the world. Inaugural members were Australia, England,
Scotland, Wales and the United States.
First and foremost, the idea for this organization belonged to Margaret Boyd
of England. Awarded by her country with an OBE (Order of the British
Empire), the IFWLA has honored her by naming the World Championship Trophy
after her.
Promotion and Development--Always on the agenda. The number of member
countries has doubled as lacrosse has spread. New member countries are from
Asia and Europe- we are now nurturing the interest shown in South America.
Promoting all levels of lacrosse includes the IFWLA sponsorship of the World
Cup and the Under 19 World Championship Tournaments. Each event is held
every 4 years.

Where would we be without rules and umpires? IFWLA is the rules writing body
for the International Rules of Women’s Lacrosse. Training and certification
of umpires also comes from this body.
We invite your
support and encourage your participation. Let us know if we can help you
spread the game of lacrosse worldwide. We love taking our show on the road! |
